1869 is considered as the year of discovery of the Periodic System, and Dmitri Mendeleev was a major discoverer. 2019 will be the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and has therefore been proclaimed the “International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)” by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO. International Young Physicists’ Tournament, IYPT, has grown since its establishment in 1988, from a Soviet-based Russian-language competition, into one of the World’s largest and most prestigious international physics contests with almost 30 nations competing annually. The IYPT, also referred to as “Physics World Cup”, is a team-oriented scientific competition among teams of secondary school students. The participants present their solutions to scientific problems they have prepared over several months and then discuss their solutions with other teams. Closing celebrations of IYPT2019. 6th of January 2020 – On the 5th of December 2019 the Official Closing Ceremony for the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019) was held in Tokyo, Japan.
